17 Apr Inside the Unveiling of Plasencia Cigars’ Alma Del Cielo at PCA 2025
By Humberto Areas, Creative Director at Cigar Package Design
There are moments at the PCA Trade Show that remind us why this industry is unlike any other. One of those moments took place this year at the unveiling of Plasencia Cigars’ newest creation: Alma Del Cielo—a cigar rooted in legacy, love, and one of the most breathtaking landscapes in premium tobacco.
A Celebration Above the Clouds
We had the privilege of attending the invite-only launch of Alma Del Cielo at Plasencia’s stunning booth during PCA 2025 in New Orleans. The experience began in style: flowing champagne, elegant hors d’oeuvres, and the first taste of this exceptional new cigar.
Plasencia Cigars describes Alma Del Cielo as “the world’s highest elevation cigar,” grown at 1,300 meters (over 4,200 feet) above sea level on their cherished Finca San Julián estate in Condega, Nicaragua.
A Story of Legacy and Redemption
Plasencia CEO Jim Young warmly welcomed guests before passing the mic to Nestor A. Plasencia, who shared the powerful story behind Alma Del Cielo. The San Julián farm was once sold during a difficult financial period in the family’s history. Two decades later, Nestor’s father was able to buy it back—and gifted it to his wife. Today, that land grows the tobacco that defines Alma Del Cielo.
“This cigar,” Nestor said, “is a labor of love.”
A Flavor Journey to Remember
The tasting experience is as elevated as its origin. The cigar opens with creamy notes of marzipan and honey, kissed with a touch of nougat. As the profile deepens, earthy undertones and orange zest emerge. Midway through, you’ll find warm cedar and more of that soft nougat sweetness. The finish lingers gracefully with a refined ginger spice—a memorable crescendo to an elegant composition.
PCA: The Industry’s Can’t-Miss Event
Held this year from April 11–14, 2025, in New Orleans, the PCA Trade Show remains the premier B2B event for the premium cigar and pipe tobacco industry. Over 250 manufacturers and attendees from more than 25 countries gather annually to showcase products, build partnerships, and celebrate the craft.
What makes PCA truly special is its mission—100% of proceeds go directly to advocacy efforts, defending and promoting specialty tobacco retailing.
If you’re in the business of cigars, PCA is the one event you can’t afford to miss.
And if you’re in pursuit of a cigar that tells a story with every draw, Alma Del Cielo belongs on your radar.
