Project: Custom Packaging Design & Cigar Bands
Client: Casa Cuevas Cigars
There’s new blood behind Casa Cuevas’ newest cigar release. Alec Cuevas, the 5th generation of the Cuevas tobacco family, blended and created Sangre Nueva.
We at Cigar Package Design have been working with the Cuevas Family since 2016. And this is our first creative project with Alec Cuevas. While Luis Cuevas Sr. and Luis Cuevas Jr. are more on the classic and traditional spectrum of cigar packaging, Alec was more than ready to make a few changes for Sangre Nueva.
Sangre Nueva is the third consecutive MDF paper wrapped cigar box we design for the Cuevas’. This is a trend in cigar packaging that has been gaining momentum in recent years because of the high price and low availability of Spanish Cedar.
Sangre Nuevas takes inspiration from a nearly finished cigar that Alec left in his backyard after a weekend BBQ. The white cigar band became soaked as the night/morning dew saturated the wrapper leaf. This in turn stained the white cigar band, turning it into this mocha/bronze color.
Color palette for Sangre Nueva are mocha, bronze, copper and black. The look we set out to accomplished was artisanal, earthy and organic. While still highlighting the overall packaging with a premium touch of copper foil.
The packaging design for Sangre Nueva was done in record time. The new cigars successfully launched at the 2022 PCA Trade Show in Las Vegas, NV with overwhelming enthusiasm and support from the cigar community.
We want to thank everyone at Casa Cuevas Cigars for entrusting us with the packaging design of their new Sangre Nueva cigar line. It is truly an honor to collaborate creatively with you all.
